They are available free of charge for use on the CERN sites and between stations during CERN’s opening hours.

They may not be taken outside CERN, and any user going beyond the authorised perimeter will receive a notification. Each scooter and bike is equipped with IoT technology that allows it to be located and a maintenance record to be kept.

Charging stations are available at each collection point to ensure that the whole fleet is continuously operational. The necessary safety and security accessories, including helmets, antitheft devices and fluorescent jackets, are also provided.

We encourage as many of you as possible to make use of this pilot scheme and enjoy the benefits of environmentally friendly transport.

(Image: CERN)

Wed, 21 Jul 2021 14:29:51 +0000 anschaef 157659 at https://home.cern CineGlobe at CERN: become a volunteer https://home.cern/news/announcement/cern/cineglobe-cern-become-volunteer CineGlobe at CERN: become a volunteer thortala Tue, 07/20/2021 - 11:55

From 25 to 29 August 2021, CineGlobe – the International Film Festival inspired by science – returns to CERN for its 10th edition, on the theme (Dis)Orders of Magnitude.

Programme

The programme includes screenings of short and feature films at the Globe of Science and Innovation, workshops at the S'Cool LAB, virtual reality stands (to be confirmed) – the programme is as vast as the health situation allows.

• Wednesday, 25 August: 12.00 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.

• Thursday, 26 August: 12.00 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.

• Friday, 27 August: 12.00 p.m. – 10.30 p.m.

• Saturday, August 28: 10.00 a.m. – 10.30 p.m.

• Sunday, 29 August: 10.00 a.m. – 8.30 p.m.

The full programme will be available at cineglobe.ch at the beginning of August.

We are looking for volunteers

To run the festival, we need help with logistics, visitor welcome and information and hosting the TetraPak and Moviola workshops, as well as the VR stand (to be confirmed).

Each day will be split into several shifts; the schedule will be defined according to your availability. Become a volunteer!

To sign up, you must:

• have a CERN contract (MPEs, MPAs, Official CERN guides, ENTC, TEMC);
• be over 18 years of age;

• have completed the COVID-19 course – Health and Safety Measures at CERN;

• attend one of the briefing sessions;

• for hosts of the workshops at the S’Cool LAB: attend one of the briefing sessions specific to S'Cool LAB

T-shirt and meal

You will receive one or two Cineglobe t-shirts, depending on the number of shifts you do.

A meal voucher (value to be confirmed) to be used at the event’s food truck (presence of the food truck to be confirmed)

Sanitary measures

A dedicated health and safety concept is currently being drafted; the conditions will be detailed during the briefing sessions. Therefore, The HUG Blood Transfusion Centre (CTS) initiated an urgent appeal to blood donors. Dr Sophie Waldvagol, the doctor in charge of CTS, warned that “during the first six months of the year we narrowly obtained the number of donations necessary to treat HUG patients. The hackathon is open to all and will again be held online this year, meaning that people from anywhere in the world can take part.

Run each year since 2012, the Webfest brings together bright minds to work on creative projects. Participants work in small teams, often designing web and mobile applications that can be of benefit to society.

Last year’s Webfest was the first to be held online, with over 400 people signing up from 75 countries across the globe. Participants worked on a wide range of exciting projects, including an online detective-themed science show for school children, a web library of LaTeX equations, an app to assist with urban planning at large research centres, a platform for sharing remote access to lab equipment, a learning-management system, and a machine-learning program to help prevent social-media content from exacerbating depression. And yes, these were all developed – or at least working prototypes were – over just one weekend.

CERN’s online Webfest isn’t just for those that can code: anyone with an idea, a challenge, or other skills is welcome to take part.

The theme for this year’s event is “science, society, sustainability”. The organisers of the hackathon encourage projects that support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Projects that relate to the five SDGs to which CERN de facto contributes are of particular interest. These SDGs are as follows:

3. Good health and well-being

4. Peace, justice and strong institutions

17. Partnerships for the goals

Projects for facilitating online science collaboration – thus reducing the need for frequent international travel – are also strongly encouraged. This picks up on the theme of last year’s Webfest and is in line with SDG 13 on climate action. The goal is for the CERN Webfest to serve as an exemplar for how people can come together virtually – from all corners of the globe – to collaborate successfully, without the need for long-distance travel with a large CO2 footprint.

Other environment-focused projects are encouraged at the Webfest too, in support of CERN’s Year of Environmental Awareness.

Join us via the web – born at CERN – to help improve our world.

You can find more information on the Webfest and how to register here: https://webfest.cern.
Registration closes at 23:59 CEST on Tuesday, 17 August.

Tue, 29 Jun 2021 14:32:35 +0000 thortala 157513 at https://home.cern
