CERN Computer Security team: Abuse, blunder and fun

The recent past of protecting the operation & reputation of CERN

(Image: CERN)

CERN is under cyberattack. Now. Permanently. Script kiddies want to put their logo or message on our webpages. Attackers want to abuse our computing resources. Thieves aim for your password. Criminals for our money. Some insiders also break the rules, often inadvertently. Based on real cases from past years, this presentation will provide a tour of the different types of abuses and attacks against the Organization, incidents and events that kept the CERN Computer Security team busy, and a series of cases that made us shake our heads, laugh or simply facepalm. At the very least, it will be amusing to see how CERN is threatened; at best, you will learn how you can help to protect the Organization in the future.
