“Where’s the best place to be sitting on a plane if it crashes?", “Is the desalinisation of water a solution for the future?” and “The end of the world in film: scientifically accurate?” were just some of the presentations on the programme of the third "La science en partage” colloquium.

This event, which brought 175 pupils from the Pays de Gex and the Canton of Geneva together in the Globe of Science and Innovation at CERN on Saturday, 11 October, featured the eight best practical scientific studies completed over the past academic year by high-school students in the Pays de Gex and their peers in the canton of Geneva as part of the French Travaux pratiques encadrés and Swiss Travaux de maturité classes. The students presented the results of their research to younger pupils who will carry out similar practical work during the current academic year.

The pupils were welcomed by Chantal Andenmatten, Director for Education and Training for the Republic and Canton of Geneva, and Jean-Paul Brech, Principal of the International Lycée of Ferney-Voltaire, both of whom underlined the importance of scientific study for girls and boys and the benefits of cross-border collaboration.

The quality of the presentations and the curiosity and passion of the speakers sparked many discussions among the participants. The subjects chosen reflected their interest in the role that science and technology play in our society.
