Amendment to the CERN Pension Fund Rules: Surviving spouse pension reduction for significant age differences

This change will apply to marriages entered into from 1 January 2027, as well as to new members joining the Fund from 1 January 2027. It will have no impact on existing marriages of members currently affiliated to the Fund.

The main changes introduced by this amendment are outlined below. For further information, please refer to the CERN Pension Fund Rules and Regulations, in particular Article II 5.07.

You are only affected if: Marriages taking place on or after 1 January 2027 Members joining the Fund on or after 1 January 2027 + Your spouse is more than 10 years younger than you. What is changing? See Pension Fund Rules, Article II 5.07 Updated calculation for spouse pension reductions The length of marriage adjustment is removed The reduction scale is simplified to 2% per year above 10 years No impact on existing marriages for existing members The updated Rules (II 5.07) are available on our Pension Fund website
