Reminder: how CERN engages with media and content creators
—
Media and social media content creators (influencers) can offer a great opportunity to tell CERN’s story to a wider audience, but unauthorised visits or sponsored content can be potential risks for CERN’s reputation.
For this reason, we would like to remind the CERN community (staff, graduates, apprentices, associates, users, students and contractors) that the Press Office and CERN Social Media team are the only teams allowed to engage in proactive discussions with media and content creators.
Similarly, if you or your colleagues are contacted by media or content creators, the procedure to follow is to direct them to the Press Office.
All visits of content creators must first be discussed with the CERN Social Media team and Press Office prior to invitation or acceptance, even if the content creators are visiting as part of a privately organised visit. This ensures that topics covered are in line with CERN’s communication strategy and its priorities. Several parameters are considered when engaging with media and content creators, including the size and type of audience as well as editorial line.
Due to the number of questions that we have received on this topic, we have recently updated the following webpages:
- Press Office and You: https://home.cern/press/press-office-and-you/
- Admin e-guide on how to handle requests from media / content creators: https://admin-eguide.web.cern.ch/en/procedure/demandes-de-renseignements-ou-de-visites-de-la-presse

The Long Shutdown is going to be full of great opportunities to showcase the amazing work done at CERN and we look forward to working together with you.
