CERN Open Days have become a regular feature of long shutdowns, when particle accelerators pause for upgrades and renovation. The countdown has started for the next edition of the event, which will take place from 24 to 26 September 2027 under the theme “Discover the Future Together”.

The CERN Open Days are a unique opportunity to share our enthusiasm for particle physics with our neighbours and visitors from around the world. During the previous edition, CERN welcomed more than 75 000 visitors of all ages. The community developed over 150 activities for the occasion, ranging from visits, hands-on activities and exhibitions to debates, theatre and music.

We expect a similar level of interest and variety of activities in 2027, allowing visitors to discover CERN’s innovative technologies, exceptional culture and plans for the future. The Open Days will celebrate the diversity, openness and collaboration across borders that make the Laboratory such a unique place.

As in earlier editions, the CERN community will be at the heart of this event. Department Heads and Technical Coordinators will select the site managers and activity managers. The call for new activities is open. Volunteer registration will open in 2027, and training will be given to help everyone prepare for their role. Vounteering is a chance to share your work, spark curiosity and give visitors a memorable experience of CERN.

The event will also give the CERN community the opportunity to rediscover the Laboratory: Friday, 24 September will be dedicated to CERN families.
