The CERN Safety Rules listed below have been published on the CERN website dedicated to the Safety Rules :
This General Safety Instruction replaces a Safety Regulation on the same subject matter dating back to 2008. It takes into account lessons learnt, as well as changes in Host State regulations. Under the new rule, smoking, including vaping, is prohibited in enclosed spaces and close to entrances and bus-or shuttle stops, as well as on restaurant terraces during lunchtime. Smoking is tolerated outdoors subject to the aforementioned restrictions and the respect of non-smokers and Safety.
There will be a transition period for the SCE Department to remove existing ashtrays from entrances and set up dedicated smoking areas in a more appropriate location. The prohibition to smoke within 3 metres of entrances and the obligation to dispose of cigarettes, including e-cigarettes, appropriately is however applicable with immediate effect.
The CERN Safety Rules apply to all persons under the Director General’s authority. They are available under the following link: http://www.cern.ch/safety-rules
