The CERN Safety Rules listed below have been published on the dedicated CERN website:

  • Safety Regulation SR-M, “Mechanical Equipment” (revised version,) EDMS 875606
  • General Safety Instruction GSI-M-2, “Pressure Equipment” (revised version), EDMS 875610
  • General Safety Instruction GSI-M-4, “Cryogenic Equipment” (revised version), EDMS 1327191
  • Specific Safety Instruction SSI-M-2-1, “Pressure Vessels” (revised version), EDMS 1453950
  • Specific Safety Instruction SSI-M-2-2, “Simple Pressure Vessels” (revised version), EDMS 1453952
  • Safety Guideline SG-M-2-1-1, “Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Evaluation for Pressure Equipment”(new), EDMS 3516247

Prompted by the introduction of a new risk-based inspection concept, the above Safety Rules have been updated to take account of changes in EU directives and evolutions in the definitions and concepts used in CERN’s Safety Rules, and to replace the Major Safety Implication (MSI) approach with the now standard approach of authorising deviations from Safety Rules’ provisions on the basis of satisfactory risk assessment and mitigation.

Any questions regarding the Safety Rules can be addressed to Safety-Rules.Secretariat@cern.ch
