The CERN Safety Rules listed below have been published on the dedicated CERN website:

The Safety Guidelines (SG) provide detailed instructions for the implementation of CERN Safety Rules. Compliance with a Safety Guideline provides a presumption of conformity with the associated CERN Safety Rule. SG-C-1-0-1 provides guidance on the storage of hazardous chemical agents.

The main changes to the revised Safety Guideline are:

  • a complete revision of chapter 9 on the storage of liquids to distinguish between the specific technical requirements in France for installations classified for environmental protection (ICPE) and other, non-ICPE installations, for example in terms of spill retention;
  • the addition of annex 1 to include a checklist on good storage practices.

The CERN Safety Rules apply to all persons under the Director-General’s authority. They are available at the following link: http://www.cern.ch/safety-rules
