New Wi-Fi network at CERN

Written by:

The CERN-Campus SSID (Service Set Identifier) is a new Wi-Fi network available across CERN. It will replace the current CERN SSID as the primary wireless network.

The CERN-Campus network uses WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security to provide both authentication and data encryption. To connect, each device needs a unique login and password pair, which you can generate through the LanDB page.

Unlike the CERN SSID, CERN-Campus SSID does not require a static MAC address – although it is still highly recommended. This should resolve many of the issues caused by private MAC addressing, which Android and Apple now enable by default.

Along with CERN-Campus comes newly designed Wi-Fi documentation and Service Now articles, which will be regularly updated based on your feedback.

Not all devices using Wi-Fi at CERN support WPA encryption – for those, please continue using the CERN network for now. An enhanced solution will replace it later this year, so watch this space!
