A redevelopment project for the Porte de France junction in Saint-Genis-Pouilly, led by the local French authorities, is entering its preparatory phase.
During this phase, utility companies will need to adapt and relocate existing water, electricity, gas, telecommunications and sanitation infrastructure ahead of the start of the junction works, scheduled for summer 2027.
These preparatory works will be carried out progressively between June 2026 and summer 2027.
Little impact on access and traffic around CERN sites
Works on public roads may occasionally cause temporary traffic disruptions or access changes, depending on the area and the progress of the works. Access to CERN sites, including Gate E, will remain unchanged. Any impact on traffic around CERN is expected to be minimal.
The Porte de France multimodal hub is a major infrastructure project for the region, aimed at improving safety and travel conditions, better connecting multiple modes of transport and supporting local development.
Land clearing from autumn 2026
Preparatory works to extend the transport corridor linking tramway line 18 with Saint-Genis-Pouilly via bus rapid transit will start in autumn 2026 so that infrastructure works can begin by mid-2027, as announced.
This phase includes clearing the roadside area on Route de Meyrin between the Route de l’Europe and the Meyrin border crossing. Disruption to the road network and traffic is expected to be minimal.
