The CERN Alumni Network aims to provide those who have left the Laboratory with a means of keeping in touch with CERN and with each other. This mission begins at CERN, as the network supports soon-to-be alumni in their transition.
Each year, many people transition beyond CERN, often into industry – a move that presents both opportunities and challenges. This shift is often complex particularly when it comes to translating highly specialised scientific experience into terms that resonate beyond academia. In early 2026, the CERN Alumni Network ran two events in collaboration with stakeholders across CERN, to support those considering such a transition.
The first was the ATLAS Job Fair on 18 February, which brought together 14 multinational companies for a full-day recruitment event. Feedback was very positive, with attendees valuing direct access to recruiters and companies highlighting the calibre and versatility of CERN talent.
The second was the LHC Career Networking Event on 17 March. This event offered practical insights from those who have successfully transitioned to industry, while also challenging the perception that leaving academia represents a failure or a “sell-out”.
Events of this kind are organised by the CERN Alumni Network and its partners at CERN on a regular basis, and anyone considering a career beyond CERN is encouraged to come along. To keep up to date with all the events organised by the CERN Alumni Network and to take advantage of the many benefits it offers, go to alumni.cern and join the CERN Alumni community.
