This research project aims at unexplored properties of nuclear physics. Specifically, the production of experimental data on the magnetic octupole moment (Ω) of single valence radioactive nuclei. This objective presents technical and scientific challenges, as there are presently no methods that reach the precision required to measure Ω for short-lived isotopes of any element.
Informations about distribution of neutrons within the nucleus, and fundamental properties of nucleons on stable and radioactive isotopes can be extracted from this observable. To this end we chose to concentrate our effort on isotopes with only single valence nucleons outside of closed nuclear shells : 83-89 Sr.
