On 17 January 2025, an Oxygen Deficiency Hazard (ODH) safety incident occurred on the CERN site in Building 182, which is dedicated to Neutrino Platform activities.
The incident involved two members of the CERN personnel who lost consciousness while working in a confined space used to contain Argon. Immediate assistance was provided by close colleagues, the CERN Fire and Rescue service, and a doctor from a local hospital. Both individuals were treated and monitored at the hospital and were discharged after being given the all-clear.
The CERN Management has instigated an investigation of the incident and a report with findings and recommendations will be submitted to the Director-General in the coming weeks.
CERN is fully committed to ensuring and improving the safety and well-being of all members of its community.
