10–13 November | 4th International Symposium on the History of Particle Physics

Logo for event

CERN will host the 4th International Symposium on the History of Particle Physics from 10–13 November and members of the CERN community are very welcome to attend, with pre-registration encouraged. Focusing on particle physics history from 1980–2000, it follows on from the previous symposia held at Fermilab in 1980 and 1985, and SLAC in 1992, which covered the period from 1930–1980. Encompassing seminal moments such as the discovery of the W and Z bosons, rise of the LHC project and the development of string theory, this fascinating period of history will be explored through four days of talks and discussions.

Former CERN Director-General Herwig Schopper was originally scheduled to speak at the symposium dinner, to be held on Tuesday 11 November. After his sad passing earlier this year, the symposium will now be dedicated to his memory and the dinner will be an opportunity to hear stories of his life and work.

Members of the CERN community who wish to come, including those not attending the symposium, are asked to register by 4 November and pay 70 CHF to cover the cost of the dinner.
