2025 relay race: sport, music and festivities

The 53rd CERN relay race broke all records. And once it was over, it was time to celebrate the Staff Association’s 70th anniversary

Congratulations to everyone who took part! Thanks to you, the relay race breaks new records every year. The 2025 edition, which took place on 14 May, attracted a total of 184 teams (compared with 167 last year) and over 1100 runners. The times ranged from 12 minutes and 44 seconds (the veterans team the Shabbys were the fastest yet again!) to over 18 minutes.

A record was set in the walking race as well, with 54 people taking part, and the children from the Jardin des Particules kindergarten had their own race too. The CERN Alumni Network once again organised an online relay race, which attracted a record number of 16 teams of alumni from 26 countries!

The results of the relay race are now available online on the Running Club’s website. All the photos from the event can be found here and here.

Of course, this year’s event was particularly special, as it was also a celebration of the Staff Association’s 70th anniversary. After the race had finished, the festivities went on until the middle of the afternoon, with plenty of entertainment and concerts, as well as great prizes to be won in the Staff Association’s raffle.

The annual CERN relay race is organised jointly by the CERN Running Club and the Staff Association. A big thank you to all the participants and volunteers, who always make it a big success.
