Reminder: Prohibition of certain laser pointers in Swiss territory

In Switzerland, the Federal Act on Protection against the Risks associated with Non-Ionising Radiation and with Sound (O-NIRSA), which came into effect on June 1st, 2019, prohibits laser pointers deemed dangerous. Considered as such lasers classified as 1M, 2, 2M, 3R, 3B and 4.

As a result, these pointers may be confiscated at customs and destroyed, even though they are not prohibited items in the cabin or hold of airplanes. Swiss authorities also remind that passengers in possession of such devices will be questioned by the police and may face criminal charges.

Only class 1 lasers, which pose no risk to health, are permitted.
