Listening for ultra-heavy dark matter with underwater acoustic detectors

Where:

4/2-011 at CERN

In this blackboard talk, I will discuss the potential of using large underwater acoustic arrays to detect ultra-heavy dark matter, which evade conventional direct detection due to their low particle flux. When ultra-heavy dark matter traverses seawater, scattering deposits energy that generates detectable thermo-acoustic pressure waves. I will discuss the characteristics of the signal and the parameter space that could be probed.
